Here Fishy Fishy

Here Fishy Fishy

I want to thank everyone who fished with us in 2016. And for those of you who weren’t able to make in out to the Deschutes or the Owyhee with us last year we hope to see this year.

With all the snow we've been getting here in Oregon for the past month and a half, we've been hitting the slopes more than the river. But if you are like me, now that the holidays are over, you're starting to get fish on the brain. Our winter steelhead season is just about to  kick in. The early steelhead that show up in our area tend to be very aggressive and is a great way to start off the new year. Then before you know it, it's brown trout time on the Owyhee. The Skwala stone flies usually start showing up the latter part of March and continue for three to four weeks. This can be some exciting early season dry fly fishing. If you're not familiar with the Owyhee it is a small walk and wade river full of big brown trout. And it is a great place to start your 2017 trout season.

Then come April 22nd, the entire Lower Deschutes opens for another year. For the first couple weeks there isn't much dry fly action, but can be some of the best nymphing of the year. But come the second week in May the Salmon Flies generally start showing and then things really get going on the D.

Once August hits, it's time to start changing gears and head down river and start hunting for Chrome. From that point on we will be fishing for both trout and steelhead right on through November.

Hope to see you on the river in 2017
