The trout fishing on the Deschutes River had been red hot for the past several weeks due to the hot weather. With the weather cooling things have slowed down a bit. With the overcast skies that we are now getting, there have been more mayflies around than normal. Which has kept the dry fly fishing good. By the end of the week the hot weather is supposed to return and so should the great caddis hatches.
There have already been reports of steelhead being caught on the lower part of the Deschutes. This is the time of season where the steelhead fishing can be a hit or miss. Usually by the middle of August the steelhead fishing hits full swing and should remain good right on through November.
