D Day

Lower Deschutes River
We are just hours away from the Lower Deschutes River opening up for another season. It is running big but not out of control. It has already started to drop. As of now there is 6720 cfs coming out of the dam. If you are planning to float and or fish the river below Trout Creek be ready Trout Creek is kicking in a bunch of mud into the Deschutes. It should still be plenty fishable just off color.

Middle Deschutes River
We made our way to the Middle Deschutes yesterday. It is flowing at a great level right now,  it's only flowing 149 cfs. There has been some great BWO's hatches coming off around one o'clock. There are also a few March Browns still in the mix but they are all but done for another season. We haven't been catching many big fish down there, but man are we catching a lot of fish and all on dry flies.

Owyhee River
The Owyhee River is still fishing good. The BWO's are also coming off but starting to slow down. As the BWO's start to disappear the caddis should start to show up. The Water levels have been stable for over two weeks now so things are back to normal. If you want a shot or shots at some big brown trout head this way.

Opening Day

Deschutes River

Good News: Opening day of fishing for the Lower Deschutes River is this coming Saturday, April 28th.

Bad News: The people in charge of water at Pelton Dam have cranked up the flows in the last few days. As of today they are releasing 7010 cfs out of the dam. This is getting to be a bit on the high side of things for fishing.

Good and Bad News: The trout will still be there and there should still be enough spots to fish, but the spots are getting fewer and smaller the high the river gets.

Regardless of what happens with the water levels and the fishing it looks like the weather is going to be great and what better place to spend a day.

Back to Normal

Owyhee River
The Owyhee is starting to fish again. It was down and out for a bit due to the dam letting out more water for the canals. It usually takes the fish a week or better to find new homes and get use to the new water level. The Skwallas are all but done for this year. There has been some good BWO hatches coming off in the middle of the day. The cloudy days the hatches generally come off better than the sunny days.

Deschutes River
The entire Lower Deschutes will be open for fishing in less then two weeks. April 28th is the magic day this year. Down by Maupin is open right now and the fishing has been pretty good. There has been some Blue Wing Olives in the middle of the day. On the sunny/ warmer days there has also been some big caddis flying around that the fish have been munching on.
